David Kirk is Professor in the Department of Sociology and Professorial Fellow of Nuffield College. He is also an affiliate of the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science. At Nuffield he directs the Centre for Social Investigation, a research centre dedicated to addressing contemporary social issues of public interest and to engaging with policymakers and the public. Kirk received his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago, and previously served on the faculties at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Maryland. Kirk's research agenda is primarily organized around three inter-related themes: the causes and consequences of police misconduct, solutions to criminal recidivism, and the causes and consequences of gun violence.
