We are delighted to announce the launch of the Data Community of Practice (CoP). This initiative is designed to unite the many of us across the University who are passionate about data, its quality, and its ethical use.
What is the Data Community of Practice (CoP)?
The Data CoP aims to establish a collaborative platform where stakeholders can share knowledge, best practices, and strategies related to data. Our goals include enhancing data management practices, ensuring data integrity, and promoting a culture of data-driven decision-making across the institution. By fostering a community centred on data, we can address common challenges, improve compliance with regulations, and leverage data as a strategic asset.
Why join the Data CoP?
- Collaborate with Peers: connect with colleagues from various departments who share an interest in data
- Learn and Grow: attend workshops, seminars, and training sessions led by experts in the field
- Share Best Practices: exchange ideas and strategies to improve data quality and compliance
- Influence Policy: have a voice in shaping the University's data policies and standards
- Stay Informed: keep up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in data management.
Who should join?
This CoP is open to anyone for whom data is a core part of their role, from analysts to developers, to policy and alumni engagement officers. We encourage participation from all departments to ensure a diverse and comprehensive approach to data.
First meeting details
For our inaugural Data CoP meeting, we’re incredibly grateful to be joined by guest speaker Professor Daniel Wilson from the University's own Big Data Institute, for an inspirational glimpse into how powerful well joined up data can be. This will be followed by some quick-fire updates from the teams behind some of the central data initiatives (Data Governance, BI reporting, and the Data Warehouse project), then an opportunity to explore a range of topics ‘speed dating’ style, from tools for data analysts, to using AI when working with data. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow members and contribute to the direction of our fledgling community. The meeting details are outlined below:
Tea, coffee and cake for those who turn up!
