Shaw Fund for Chinese Studies

1. The University accepts with deep gratitude a benefaction of £3,000,000 from the Shaw Foundation of Hong Kong as an endowment for the development of Chinese Studies in the University, principally by the establishment of posts in the subject, and by provision for various support costs. The fund shall be entitled the Sir Run Run Shaw Fund for Chinese Studies.

2. The benefaction shall be applied to these objects in such ways as the Humanities and Social Sciences Divisional Boards together shall determine. In the event of the Divisional Boards failing to reach agreement, Council will be asked to make a decision on the matter in question.

3. These regulations shall be subject to alteration from time to time by Council, provided that the purpose of the fund, as defined in clause 1 above, is adhered to.
