1. The University accepts with gratitude from the trustees of the William Waldorf Astor Foundation the sum of $200,000 to establish an Astor Travel Fund.
2. The fund shall be administered by a board of management consisting of one member of each of the Divisions of Humanities, Social Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences, as appointed by the relevant Divisional Boards.
3. The board shall apply the fund to continue one of the principal activities of the foundation (1) by providing grants to senior members of the University’s academic staff and other scholars and scientists from the British Isles to enable them to visit laboratories, hospitals, libraries, and similar institutions in the United States and thus enhance or facilitate their research and teaching efforts, and (2) by enabling the University to invite distinguished scholars and scientists from the United States to visit the University in order to lecture and to carry out research.
4. Council shall have power to alter this decree from time to time provided that the main objects of the fund, defined in clause 3, shall be kept in view.
