Nolloth Professor of the Philosophy of the Christian Religion

1. The Nolloth Professor of the Philosophy of the Christian Religion shall lecture and give instruction in the Philosophy of the Christian Religion including Apologetics, that is, the setting forth of the reasonableness as well as the authority of the Christian Religion, and shall generally promote the study of those subjects in the University.

2. The professor shall be elected by an electoral board consisting of:

(1) the Vice-Chancellor, or, if the Provost of Oriel College is Vice-Chancellor, a person appointed by Council on the occurrence of a vacancy to act as an elector on that occasion;

(2) the Provost of Oriel College, or, if the Provost is unable or unwilling to act, a person appointed by the Governing Body of Oriel College on the occurrence of a vacancy to act as an elector on that occasion;

(3) a person appointed by the Governing Body of Oriel College;

(4), (5) two persons appointed by Council;

(6) a person appointed by the Humanities Board

(7), (8) two persons appointed by the Board of the Faculty of Theology;

(9) a person appointed by the Board of the Faculty of Literae Humaniores.

3. The professor shall be subject to the General Provisions of the decree concerning the duties of professors and to those Particular Provisions of the same decree which are applicable to this chair.

4. Council shall have power to alter this decree from time to time, provided that the main objects of the foundation of the professorship, viz. the teaching and study of the Philosophy and Apologetics of the Christian Religion, are kept in view.
