Joint Student Number Planning Sub-Committee

Terms of reference

The Joint Student Number Planning Sub-Committee shall advise Council, through Planning and Resource Allocation Committee, Education Committee, and Conference of Colleges on the implementation of the collegiate University’s student number planning policy, set by Council and endorsed by Conference. It shall:

1.    maintain an overview of the current and future size and shape of Oxford’s student body, consistent with the University’s educational priorities for student numbers, as defined by Education Committee;

2.    consider proposals for short-term adjustments to student number plans from all parts of the collegiate University as these arise and approve as appropriate;

3.    receive medium-term student number plans from all parts of the collegiate University on a regular basis and consider the implications of these in terms of the University’s educational priorities;

4.    consider capacity for growth and agree the redistribution of existing student numbers in line with the University’s educational priorities;

5.    maintain consistency between college and divisional student number plans at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and consider mechanisms to encourage a match between divisional and college targets;

6.    monitor indicators of capacity for the provision of student places through measures such as the number of units of accommodation provided across the collegiate University and demand for student-facing services;

7.    provide details of approved student number plans and indications of future size and shape aspirations to the Services Subcommittee in order for it to plan appropriate student service provision;

8.    monitor planned and actual student numbers against levels outlined in agreements made with Oxford City Council concerning the number of students living in private accommodation.

The Sub-Committee shall report to Council and Conference annually.
